In Korea, it's already the case that only a few surnames exist.

On the other hand, in some countries at least, as a result of misspellings or deliberate name changes new surnames may appear too.

In Iceland, if the father's first name is Frederick and he has a son(s) his son(s) last name is/are Frederickson; if he has a daughter, her last name is Fredericksdotir, or (Fredericksdaughter)
